CORBON cautions against quackery in building construction
In an effort to prevent structural failures in housing projects, the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) has advised Nigerians to safeguard their investments by exclusively engaging registered builders.
CORBON has refuted claims suggesting that the engineer allegedly responsible for the collapse of a four-story building in Uyo is a registered builder. Adetunji Adeniran, the Registrar and Secretary to the council, emphasized that no professional builders have been associated with the management of any collapsed building in the country.

Adeniran stated, “Building is a profession regulated by CORBON, established by an Act of the National Assembly, CAP B13 LFN 2002 (formerly Decree 45 of 1989). CORBON possesses the authority to define the role of a builder, regulate the entire scope of the building profession, and maintain a comprehensive register of licensed builders in Nigeria.”
Adeniran further clarified that, after conducting a thorough examination of the register of builders as mandated by Sections 8 (1), (2), and 9 (1), (2) of the Builders Registration Act CAP 8.13 LFN 2004, the name Felix Anietie Udo does not appear in the register of licensed builders authorized to practice in Nigeria as of September 5, 2023.
“CORBON is ready to cooperate and assist in the prosecution of the suspect in any way necessary. Anyone who, without being a registered builder, practices or presents themselves as one for financial gain or utilizes titles or descriptions implying legal authorization to practice as a registered builder, is in violation of this Act,” Adeniran warned.
In line with its dedication to collaborating with governmental agencies to combat professional malpractice, the council strongly calls for the prosecution of Felix Aniebie Udo in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Builders Registration Act.
