
Dangiwa commits to transforming the housing sector
The commitment to transformative reforms in Nigeria’s housing and urban sector has been reiterated by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa. Emphasizing the Ministry’s dedication to reshaping the narrative of housing and urban development, the Minister highlighted the exploration of creative solutions for implementing necessary reforms.

In a statement by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister, Mark Chieshe, the Ministry is poised to change the prevailing narrative by confronting housing challenges head-on. This involves adopting a comprehensive approach that caters to all income levels within society, aiming to redefine the landscape of housing and urban development.

“As the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, I have embraced Mr. President’s vision and am resolute in actualizing it. Our goal is to execute the most historic housing and urban sector reforms witnessed in the country,” stated Minister Dangiwa. He outlined the Ministry’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to private sector investments in housing, with a focus on ensuring ease, safety, and profitability.
Dangiwa emphasized that the establishment of an independent Ministry of Housing and Urban Development was not only indicative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s prioritization of the sector but also a clear statement of expectations. President Tinubu expects tangible action and results from leaders, public servants, and stakeholders in the sector.

Highlighting the significance of the demerger, Dangiwa noted that housing is a top priority for the government due to its potential to catalyze economic growth, create jobs, and alleviate poverty. The Minister urged all commissioners of housing and stakeholders in the housing delivery value chain to elevate their efforts, breaking barriers that hinder the sector’s progress.
Dangiwa reiterated the ministry’s targets, including the creation of Renewed Hope Cities nationwide, starting with an initial phase of 34,500 housing units to be launched by year-end. Other goals include upgrading 26 slums across the six geopolitical zones, implementing extensive land reforms to encourage real estate investment, and fortifying the ministry and its agencies to better support housing delivery.
