Ministry and EFCC Unite to Combat Housing Fraud
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, has announced a strategic collaboration between the ministry and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to establish a robust housing fraud detection and monitoring platform. This initiative aims to combat fraudulent activities within the housing sector effectively.
Speaking at the commissioning of De Mayor’s Estate and the launch of Project Broadfield in Abuja, Minister Dangiwa outlined the significance of the forthcoming platform. He emphasized its pivotal role in enabling Nigerians nationwide to report instances of housing fraud perpetrated by unscrupulous developers.
“The primary objective of this platform,” the minister explained, “is to monitor and detect fraudulent practices in the housing sector and ensure accountability. Our goal is to safeguard the rights and investments of Nigerians by establishing a transparent and accountable system.”
Dangiwa highlighted that the platform would empower citizens to report suspicious activities anonymously or by disclosing their identity, offering a user-friendly online interface for submissions. He underscored the importance of collecting comprehensive data, including location, developer details, and evidence, to identify patterns and trends in fraudulent practices.
Operational within existing legal frameworks, the platform will support legal actions against fraudulent developers by providing evidence to law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies. Minister Dangiwa reiterated the ministry’s commitment to curbing housing fraud, promoting transparency, and protecting the interests of Nigerians in the real estate market.
In a stern warning to developers engaging in fraudulent practices, Minister Dangiwa emphasized the end of tolerance for such behavior. He cautioned against the use of substandard materials and unethical practices, stating that legal consequences awaited those who failed to comply with established regulations.

Minister Dangiwa concluded by urging developers to uphold ethical standards and fulfill their contractual obligations to deliver quality housing to Nigerians. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to collaborating with the EFCC to root out fraudulent activities, emphasizing the imperative of accountability and protecting the investments of citizens.
